I have to admit something. I used to hate Ansel Adams.
What photographer in their right mind would admit that? This one.
I once went to the Ansel Adams Museum in San Francisco and was shocked at what I saw. Don’t get me wrong, the photographs were amazing. It was the negatives that floored me. Thin, shitty, underexposed. I still think the zone system is BS.
That was a long time ago. A younger me would not have been so patient. Take a big camera, haul it around and take a pretty picture. Sounds easy, right? Nope. It is challenging, boring at times, cold at other times. Most of the time you do not get a great shot. But sometimes in the right conditions, you get a great shot.
A couple days ago I had one of those days. After a storm, crisp skies with patchy clouds. But my subject was a single tree. I spent a couple hours with this majestic Ficas. The results are below.
Okay Mr. Adams. I take my hat off to you. But, I still hate the Zone System.
