Harbor Drive Bridge

Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, San DiegoHave you ever wondered wht 26.8 Millon dollars looks like? Wonder no more. In fact you can walk on it in the form of the new Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge. It is a think of beauty and a landmark that San Diegans can be proud of. Not like that hideous giant eyesore next to the USS Midway, the sailor kissing the nurse. Blech. The bridge is supposed to be one of the longest self-anchored suspension bridges for pedestrians in the US. Although I would question why a suspension bridge is at all necessary there, it is stunning.

4th of July in San Diego

The Fam was way to tired to go out and see the fireworks. It was the perfect opportunity to grab the old clicker box and capture some fire shooter thingies. So, how did I do? They were shot at the embarcadero on the San Diego bay.

Republic of Letters

I remember when I was first starting AmplifySD (the now defunct internet radio station that played only San Diego bands 24/7).  There was this one band that sent me a bunch of magnetic letters and a few stickers and their EP, Spirit of a Ghost.  I was pretty impressed by their haunting melodies and thoughtful lyrics. I have been a fan ever since. Thursday night they played at the House of Blues in San Diego, and I just happened to have my camera with me. This is the result.

All rivers lead to the sea

La Jolla Beach
Nemo had to find this out the hard way. Except his river was made of metal, and spit. But surely I digress. San Diego has some of the most spectacular beaches in the world. This one happens to be in the gem of San Diego… La Jolla.

What goes better together?

What goes better together than bacon and chocolate? My life is one step closer to zen, for I have found a dark chocolate and bacon candy bar at Cost Plus. Eating now, can’t type.

Sleep With One Eye Open

I guess this duck was pretty tired.

He let me get close enough to take several photos.  I think this one turned out the best.

Falling or Floating

Falling or Floating

Falling or Floating

I decided I needed a new self-portrait.

You see, self-portraits are what you get when a photographer can’t get anybody to pose for them.

I decided on a different approach for this photo.  I wanted to get an image that would look like I was floating, or falling, depending on how you look at it. And YES, I am really in this photo.

How did I do it?  I’m not telling.

Star Wars on Blu-ray

Star Wars by Marc Balanky

Star Wars by Marc Balanky

Ok, if you know anything about me, you know I am a huge Star Wars geek.  I saw all 6 of the original releases in theaters. I have a Darth Tater Potato Head on my desk. I have even played with the idea of dressing up as a Jedi or Storm Trooper on Halloween and at Comic-Con.

The one thing that fans have been asking since the inception of high definition TVs is the re-release of Star Wars in the shiny new format.

Well Star Geeks, your time is here…  almost.

The new Blu-ray movies (all 6) will come out fall of 2011.

The disks will include tons of bonus content, including the original cut intro of Return of the Jedi. Sweet.

So, in celebration of the new disks I created this image with the help of my sons toys.

No, I swear they are his.

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

If you are a beer fan (I mean a REAL beer fan) and love Pliny the Elder or Younger, you need to try Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. This beer is my favorite local beer. It might be my favorite beer of all time. Maybe. It is brewed

right here in sunny San Diego, the Beer Capitol of the WORLD. This beer was always offered as a limited release, meaning you could only get it at certain times of the year.

It has nice hop bitterness, immediately followed by some fresh pine with mango and orange hints. Hints, I said. Not overly fruity. Do NOT fruit this beer. No orange slices or limes needed.

More good news boys and girls…

Here is the new label and it does not say “Limited Release”! That is right. This glass of pure hoppy gold is now available any time you want it. Beer Advocate gives it an A. You have to give it a try.

Jamie WMDee King

Jamie WMDee King

I was looking through some photographs I took a couple years ago. This one stood out as one I needed to work on and post ASAP.

This is WMDee of the San Diego Derby Dolls fame. I hear she is still involved in the league, but not skating anymore in matches.

I just love this shot. I was getting some great shots and she was up for anything. So was really sweet and tough at the same time and I wanted to show that in the photo. So I asked her to smear her lipstick across her face. BAM! here is the result.
